reTYPE Collage Workshop Poster
This poster promotes reTYPE, a fictional workshop hosted by Letterform Archive that invites participants to explore typography as a medium for collage and abstract art. Rather than treating letterforms solely as vessels for legibility, reTYPE encourages attendees to cut, flip, layer, and recontextualize type into unique compositions. Special guest Sarah Short—an artist and printmaker from Rhode Island known for her incredible typographic collage work—joins the event to share her process and inspire participants. Her work embodies the workshop’s mission, and her experience teaching collage and abstract composition makes her an ideal collaborator. The workshop is open to both newcomers and seasoned creatives eager to rediscover type through tactile experimentation.
The poster reflects the core spirit of the workshop by using the prefix “re” deconstructed and rearranged into an abstract typographic composition. When scanned with the Artivive app, the letterforms animate and reassemble into a traditional rendering of “re,” illustrating the shift between expressive and functional typography. The poster is printed on Neenah’s Classic Natural White paper to evoke an archival quality, aligning with the Letterform Archive’s identity and the workshop’s use of found ephemera. This design utilizes type as both image and message, embodying the limitless potential that can be explored at reTYPE.
